Meta Muse alternative: MausBot

A Meta Muse alternative that is open source, works outside the US and Canada, and keeps your data off Meta's servers: a team of agents on your own machine.

Meta Muse is one personal agent in Meta's cloud, free to start, available in the US and Canada only. MausBot is the open source Meta Muse alternative: a team of agents instead of one, on your own machine, anywhere in the world, on the Claude, ChatGPT or Grok account you already pay for.

What Meta Muse is

Muse launched on September 8, 2026 from Meta Superintelligence Labs. You give it a goal and it does the work from a Linux VM in Meta's cloud on Meta's own Muse Spark model: it books tables, runs goals in the background, and phones US businesses. It is on iOS, Android, web, WhatsApp and a Mac app, for people 18 and over in the US and Canada, with a free tier metered in weekly tokens.

Why people look for a Meta Muse alternative

  • US and Canada only, with no announced date for anywhere else.
  • It is Meta: Muse asks for Gmail, calendar and, via Plaid, your bank, and Meta's own security post says Meta can access VM data today.
  • Training on your sessions is on by default, with an opt-out.
  • One agent, one model: you cannot give one Muse your inbox and another your repos, and a Claude or ChatGPT plan goes unused.
  • Amazon blocked it from shopping on September 20, 2026, as reported by GeekWire.

What MausBot is

MausBot is a free, open-source chat app where every contact is an AI bot with its own model, its own computer, and its own connected apps. Bots run on the claude, codex, and grok CLIs installed on your own machine, with your existing logins, so one bot can be on Claude and the next on ChatGPT. Shell commands and file edits surface as Allow / Deny cards before they run, bots share group rooms and hand work to each other, and your data stays in ~/.openmausbot on your disk. It is published on GitHub under Apache 2.0, with iOS and Android companions, and paid Cloud plans from $29 a month keep bots working with the laptop closed.

What Meta Muse still does better

  • Phone calls to US businesses, in beta.
  • Keeps working with your phone in your pocket, on every task, with zero setup.
  • A free tier and the US App Store's top spot within ten days of launch, as reported.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an open source Muse?
Not from Meta. The agent is closed; the only open component on Meta's roadmap is the Spark model's weights, with no date, and that would not make Muse self-hostable. MausBot is the open source agent with the same personal-agent idea, as a team, on your own machine.
Is Meta Muse available in India, the UK, or the EU?
Not as of October 2026. Muse launched in the United States and added Canada on September 18, 2026. MausBot has no region check; it runs wherever your model login works.
Is Meta Muse free?
There is a free tier metered in weekly tokens, and press reports say a payment card is required at signup. MausBot has no quota and no card.
Can MausBot phone businesses like Muse?
No. A bot can talk to you on a call inside the app and read replies aloud, but it does not call third parties.
