Bops alternative: MausBot
A Bops alternative that is open source, runs on any model, and ships for Mac, Windows and Ubuntu with phone apps. Bops is Orgo's Mac-only roster on OpenAI.
Bops, launched by Orgo on October 6, 2026, is a Mac app that runs a team of business-ops bots on OpenAI models, with Orgo cloud computers and, on paid plans, phone numbers and email addresses the bots can own, under a fair-source licence. MausBot is the open source alternative: a team of bots on any model, local-first, free under Apache 2.0, on Mac, Windows and Ubuntu.
What Bops is
Bops is a macOS app from Nick Vasilescu, co-founder of Orgo, the cloud-computer company. Every bot (Boppy the chief of staff, Penny for finance, Otto for outbound, Iris for the inbox) gets a four-screen cloud computer, its own email address and its own phone number, and you reach them by text, iMessage, call, email, Slack, Telegram or Discord. It positions itself against Instinct, Muse, dots and Grok Bot as the business agent rather than the personal one.
Launched: October 6, 2026 (v0.0.6). Sources: Bops; Bops on GitHub (licence, README); Launch post by Nick Vasilescu.
Why people look for a Bops alternative
- OpenAI models only: a Claude or Grok plan goes unused, and the Mac mode runs through the Codex CLI.
- Mac only, Apple Silicon only: no Windows, Linux, iOS or Android app.
- The bots' computers, memory, email and phone live with Orgo and its providers, billed as AI credit at cost; only the chat server runs on your Mac.
- Fair source, not open source: the FSL-1.1 licence bars offering a competing service and only becomes Apache 2.0 two years after each release.
- Brand new at the time of writing: version 0.0.6, two commits, one maintainer, a one-page site. MausBot was the same in August; check the vendor's pages before you decide.

What MausBot is
MausBot is a free, open-source chat app where every contact is an AI bot with its own model, its own computer, and its own connected apps. Bots run on the claude, codex, and grok CLIs installed on your own machine, with your existing logins, so one bot can be on Claude and the next on ChatGPT. Shell commands and file edits surface as Allow / Deny cards before they run, bots share group rooms and hand work to each other, and your data stays in ~/.openmausbot on your disk. It is published on GitHub under Apache 2.0, with iOS and Android companions, and paid Cloud plans from $29 a month keep bots working with the laptop closed.
What Bops still does better
- Phone numbers and email addresses the bots can own (one each on Pro, up to five on Max), with texting, iMessage and live calls.
- Four-screen cloud computers you can watch or take over, from the company that builds them.
- A business-ops framing: Boppy as chief of staff and a cast of named specialists for inbox, finance and outbound.
